San Martin de los Andes
San Martin de los Andes
San Martín de los Andes is located in the southwest of the province of Neuquén. The Municipality of Lanín National Park (383,612 ha) is there. It is located 640 metres above sea level, 45 km away from the border with the Republic of Chile and 1575 km away from Buenos Aires. It currently has 23,354 inhabitants (according to the provisional census of 2001). It was founded on February 4, 1898, on a territory that belonged to the Mapuche Curruhuinca Community. Nowadays, it is over one hundred years old and still keeps its appearance of a traditional mountain village, where its inhabitants have worked to achieve a balance between urban development, especially its architecture, and the natural environment, using typical materials, such as stone and wood, that are essential for the image of this fairy tales and goblins scenery. Its economy is based almost exclusively on tourism, and it is the main population and service provider of Lanín National Park. San Martín de los Andes is a tourism hub of international excellence that can be visited all year long: hills, rivers, streams, waterfalls, native forests and lakes offer tourists their noble nature for them to venture into different activities, tours and sports. The hospitality and warmth of the mountain range spirit can be enjoyed in all services: hotels, cabins, lodges, shopping centres, pubs, tea houses and restaurants where you can try a delicious specialty of deer, wild boar, trout, fine fruits, chocolates or a handmade sweet. San Martín de los Andes is the "Valley of Gods" you deserve, come to know it and enjoy it.
