Northern Argentina: Salta - Jujuy - Tucumán
The Province of Salta is in the northwest of Argentina, and borders three countries: Bolivia, Chile and Paraguay. Salta is characterized by geographic and climatic diversity, ranging from the cold desert of the Andes and the Puna, to the subtropical heat of the jungle. In the centre of the province, there are fertile valleys, mountains, rivers, with pleasant temperatures and sunshine throughout the year. From a historical and cultural standpoint, Salta offers a great beauty. It also has exceptional places and offers unique services, such as the Cafayate River Ravine; the natural amphitheatre; or the Train to the Clouds (Tren de las Nubes), which starts the ride 1200 metres above sea level in Salta and reaches 4200 metres above sea level in La Polvorilla Viaduct (a few kilometres away from San Antonio de los Pobres); alternative tourism, 4x4 truck rides; rafting and fishing, among others. It is common for tourists to spend the night in Salta and depart from there to go on excursions to neighbouring provinces such as Jujuy and/or Tucumán or even combine the areas to spend the night in order to go on the well-known Around the North tour.
